Film Camp
Legacy Cultural Learning Community Inc. held a film camp June 9 - 13, 2008, encouraging Native youth expression through the camera eye.
Film producer Bob Hicks taught lighting, sound, and camera techniques for making quality videos. "The kids learned from a professional and became empowered to take the camera in their own hands to tell stories in their unique voices." said Legacy's executive director, Dana Tiger.
On the first day, kids learned to work the equipment and filmed mostly comedy routines. The rest of the week focused on the artistic capabilities of Legacy youth. Friday, the crew assembled at Tiger Gallery in Muskogee to film 12 year old sculptor, Lisan Tiger Blair, as he demonstrated his skill with clay before a group of school children.
The project produced a broadcast news program entitled, "Legacy, Modern Day Storytellers", showing Legacy's achievements and goals. "Our hope is to inspire the kids to document the world around them while remembering their tribal roots." said Dana. The video will be used to raise interest and funds for Legacy's art and cultural programs.
A press release about the camp also appeared in the June 12, 2008 edition of the Tahlequah Daily Press.
